Just less than three weeks to go before the 24th edition of the Sellaronda Skiamarathon takes off.
Registration forms have run out and there is a good chance that the 3 hour barrier will be smashed.
The SellaRonda Skimarathon, ski-mountaineering race tackled in teams of 2 during the night, lit up by head lamps, has already broken two new records even before starting its 24th edition on the 22nd March at Selva di Val Gardena.
National athletes enrolled before time to register ran out in only 33 minutes. In 2018 it took athletes 46 minutes. For the 24th edition 333 national teams registered in only 33 minutes.
International athletes all signed up in just 5 hours, it took 6 days last year to run out of registration forms.
The 42 kilometre long itinerary with 2700 metres of vertical height gain develops along the largest ski resort of the world, the Dolomiti Superski area, and it runs along the famous ski slopes which run around the Sella massif.
The Sellaronda athletes, will set off at 6pm in Selva di Val Gardena and will start to climb up towards Passo Gardena, Campolongo, Pordoi and finally Passo Sella to then return to Selva.
The starting list of the top skiers is finally being defined these last weeks, among some of the best ski-mountaineers in the world will give battle to each other across the Dolomite mountain passes with the aim of breaking the two records, male and female which were broken during the last edition by the Swiss athletes Martin Anthamatten/Werner Mart and Alba De Silvestro with Jennifer Fichter.
In the men’s field the record to beat is 3h04’30” while in the female race the stop watch clocked 3h37’58”. In these last few weeks, the organizing committee coordinated by the Mountain Guide Oswald Santin is hard at work following even the non competitive aspects of the race such as the live streaming.
A live programme shown on the web to keep thousands of sport enthusiasts glued to the screen, who on race day will want to follow the feats of all the athletes. A rich programme which will not only follow the leaders but will also show the heart of the main group.
