Friday 31st March in Arabba at 6 pm the 29th edition of the SellaRonda Skimarathon will set off.
Oswald Santin: «we have had to make some changes to the itinerary»
The best international athletes will be in Arabba. Even the new world champion Matteo Eydallin will toe the starting line together with his team mate Davide Magnini. On the www.sellaronda.it website you will be able to follow the live coverage of the race.
Only a few days to go before the 29th edition of the SellaRonda Skimarathon begins, night time ski mountaineering race which races around the Dolomiti Superski ski slopes, the largest ski resort in the world which runs along the famous slopes encompassing the Sella group. 600 teams will set off at 6pm from Arabba to tackle the four passes Pordoi, Sella, Gardena and Campolongo. As far as the registrations are conncerned, the best international athletes of this discipline will be grouped together on the starting line for this 29th edition. The newly elected World Champion Matteo Eydallin will race together with the other Italian athlete Davide Magnini. Eydallin-Magnini will wear race bib nr. 2, since bib number 1 is reserved for the record holder William Boffelli. Boffelli will race with Alex Oberbacher. Just recently we have received confirmation of the following teams taking part: Michele Boscacci and Federico Nicolini and Nadir Maguet and Gian Luca Vanzetta. Among the international teams worth pointing out we have Jakob Hermann and Martin Anthamatten, Christian Hoffmann and Daniel Ganahl, Nils Oberauer and Julian Tritsher, Matheo Jacquemod and Gedeon Pochat, and Luka Kovacic and Philip Götsch.
In the female race, even before starting we have to point out a record: there will be 35 female teams this year. Among these Alba De Silvestro and Elena Nicolini will have to defend themselves from the Austrian team of Sarah Dreier and Johanna Hiemer. For the 29th edition live coverage will be shown on the pages of the www.sellaronda.it for those not present on the field it will be possible to watch the race on their electronic device and enjoy how the snow of the Sellaronda race will burn up under the fast skis of the world’s best ski mountaineers.
«We have some new developments along the itinerary – Oswald Santin coordinator of the Organizing Committee told us –since we are racing late on in the season. The first ascent up to Passo Pordoi follows the traditional route, but along the successive descent, as has already happened a few years ago, the racers will not descend into Canazei, but they will tackle the transition point at Lupo Bianco. From here the ascent to passo Sella has not undergone many changes. In Val Gardena the itinerary does not have great variations, the downhill section from Dantercepies in Val Badia towards Corvara the athletes will have to run down carrying their skis for roughly five minutes. After the transition area of Corvara you climb up the Boè slope up to an altitude of 2050 metres where a short descent has been added with an obligatory transition area, and after having put skins back on for the final section to Bec de Roces the athletes then “fly” down towards Arabba’s finishing line». «I estimate – Santin concluded – that after these changes the length of the itinerary will go down to 38 kilometres while the vertical height gain will be of 2500 metres».
