Rules
Sellaronda Skimarathon
1. The Organizing Committee, supported by the Ski Team Fassa, organizes the Sellaronda Skimarathon, a ski mountaineering competition that takes place at night. The race track runs along the slopes of the Sellaronda and it crosses the resorts of Corvara (Val Badia), Arabba (Livinallongo) Canazei (Val di Fassa) and Selva (Val Gardena). The race will take place on Friday, 10. February 2012, starting in Corvara at 6.00 p.m. and arriving in the same resort.

2. The competition is open to two-people-teams. The start will be mass start. Teams can be composed by two men, two women or a man and a woman. For the ranking, mixed teams will be included in the men’s classification. Participants must be 21 years old by the day of the race and they must be regularly enrolled in the Winter Sports Federation. All the athletes must have a health certificate for competitive sporting activity, released by a sports doctor and valid by the day of the race. The race is open to Italian and foreign teams also composed by athletes belonging to different sporting associations. Athletes from abroad must possess an updated card in accordance with the membership regulations in force in their countries. The entries open on December 1 2011 and close on January 31 2012 by 12.00 o’clock. Only payments by credit card will be accepted. After checking your entry in the official website you can ask your association or society to send the Form 61 by fax at the following number: +39 0462 763123. In case of more teams registered belonging to the same association or society, please send a cumulative form, quoting both the athletes and the teams. Only teams from abroad must send a copy of the sport medical certification of each athlete and a copy of their association membership card. The race is open to max. 500 teams. The change of one of the two athletes will be possible only by paying an extra charge of 20,00 € by the race office at the withdrawal of the race number.

3. Gates. The race must be completed in max. 6 hours and 15 minutes . In any case, teams arriving in Arabba in 1 hour and 20’, in Canazei in 2 hours and 55’ and in Selva in 4 hours and 30’ will be excluded from the race. Teams exceeding the maximal settled times will be excluded from the prosecution of the race. Teams disqualified will be brought back to the start by shuttles scheduled by the organization.

4. Equipment. Each team must have the following equipment:
- 2 pairs of mountaineering skis with safety toes, heel bindings and their respective sealskins;
- 2 backpacks with ski-holders;
- 1 thermal cloth and 1 first-aid kit;
- 1 pair of spare sealskins;
- IMPORTANT: Arva is not required anymore;
- 2 helmets for the descent, in accordance with ENI 12492 (U.I.A.A.106). The use of MTB helmets is forbidden.
- 2 front lamps (with a suggested parabola of minimum 60).
- 2 windbreakers – 2 pairs of shell pants - 2 extra pairs of mittens.

The equipment must meet mountaineering skiing requirements. The equipment will be checked before, during and right after the competition. The skis used by participants must have sharp edges and be equipped with mountaineering ski-bindings. Ski boots must have VIBRAM soles. Cross-country skiing boots and skis are not allowed.

5. The race numbers must be placed on the right leg and on the backpack.

  6. Skins can only be changed only in the designated areas without any external help, otherwise the team will be eliminated. The skins changing area must be left by both the athletes together in pair. Fixed and mobile check points will be set up along the race track. The track itself will be signalled by means of flags, reflecting tape, flashing and torch lights.

7. Should the weather conditions be dangerous for the participants, the Jury has the unquestionable authority to change the track, suspend, put off or cancel the competition at any time. Should the competition be cancelled, the registration fee would not be refund.

8. Team members must march close to each other during the whole competition. Team members keeping at a distance of more than 20 m will be disqualified. In case of need, team members may help each other. Prosecution of the race by one athlete only is strictly forbidden. It is compulsory to communicate one’s withdrawal from the competition, whatever the reason may be, at the nearest skins changing area.

9. Failure to reach the check points set up by the Organization will result in disqualification. Disqualification will also be applied for the following reasons: - unfair behaviour and lack of respect of the security rules;
- unsportsmanlike conduct;
- passing the gates of Arabba, Canazei and Selva beyond the time limits scheduled or finishing the race in more than 6 hours 15’. Possible penalties to teams can be assigned by the Jury in case of need.

10. The race entry relieves the Organizing Committee of civil and criminal liability for any damage that may occur to people or property before, during and after the competition or in relation to it. The Organizing Committee has taken out an insurance against civil liability for risks related to the organization of the competition. Participants are not covered by this insurance.

11. The Organizing Committee reserves itself the right to change whatever is necessary for the best outcome of the race.

12. Any complaints must be submitted to the Jury within one hour after the end of the race, together with a 50 € fee. This amount of money will be refund if the complaint is accepted.

13. For anything else not mentioned in these present rules, the provisions of R.F.T. and of the “Skiers calendar 2011/12” will be applied to this competition.
